The Alef Kabbala Group (8 September 09) explored a discourse by the Lubavitcher Rebbe said in 1972 at the beginning of the month of Elul (preceding Rosh Hashana), discussing the relation between the spiritual service of Elul and that of the actual High Holidays, Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Elul is the 'lower fear', and also 'love' leading to the exalted 'higher fear' or awe felt on Rosh Hashana.
