The Rebbe taught this discourse on Lag B'Omer 1969. The theme is a story in the Zohar that once, when there was a drought, Rabbi Shimon delivered a Torah teaching and the rain came. The discourse explores the fact that usually in the Talmud the rabbis pray or fast in order for the rain to fall, a spiritual movement from below to above. But Rabbi Shimon taught Torah, a movement from above to below. This leads to a discussion of these two kinds of movement in Jewish life.
