Lehavin Inyan Chanuka Making The Darkness Shine

Vayeshev | Genesis | 5726

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Vayeshev, 5726 (1965), during Chanukah. The discourse asks why the Chanukah lamp differs from the Temple Menorah in number of lights, placement, side and time of lighting. The main theme is that the Chanukah lights are specifically designed to illuminate the darkness, fighting the Greek spiritual darkness that had penetrated even the Temple, and revealing the light of the Divine where it seemed most absent.
