Two Kinds Of Radiance

Behaalotecha | Numbers, Bamidbar | 5724

This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Sedra Behaalotecha, 5724 (1964). The command to kindle the Menorah lamps in the plural refers not only to the seven lights but to two kinds of radiance: the soul as 'the lamp of G-d' shining upward, and G-d as 'my lamp' shining downward to the person. The discourse explores this mutual illumination between the human being and the Divine as the deepest meaning of the Menorah service.
