This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Shofetim, 5727 (1967). The Sedra commands placing judges and guards at all the gates, and the Midrash presents a parable about a King who gives his beloved orchard to his most favoured child. The discourse explores why Israel is compared to the King's youngest child and beloved, and how justice, when truly practiced, causes the Shechinah to dwell among Israel and brings the Redemption.
