This discourse was delivered by the Rebbe on Shabbat Parshat Vayishlach, 5743 (1983). Jacob was left alone and wrestled with the angel of Esau, and the Sages say 'they raised dust to the Throne of Glory', indicating the force of the spiritual sifting being achieved. The discourse explains that the mode of transforming Esau requires direct confrontation and involvement, not withdrawal, and that through this spiritual wrestling Jacob was elevating the sparks of holiness embedded in Esau's domain.
